Welcome to the Locking Stumps Community Primary School website and thank you for considering our school for your child.
Our school aims are rooted in the celebration of the achievements and talents of all of our children. Our last two Ofsted inspections in 2007 and 2009 both judged our school to be providing an ‘outstanding’ all round education for our children (reports available at http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/111204).
At Locking Stumps, we recognise the importance of the key skills. We have received the Basic Skills Quality Mark on three occasions, most recently in 2010 (see report letter here) . Our curriculum places emphasis on literacy and numeracy and we are proud of the consistently high standards our children achieve in these areas by the time they leave our school. However, our children also experience a broad and varied range of activities, both in and out of school time. We currently also hold the Healthy Schools Award and Activemark and achieved Artsmark Gold – the highest Artsmark award - in 2010. Of course, we celebrate the achievements of our children in all areas.
Over the past ten years, our school building and premises have been significantly improved. This has involved a redesign from open plan to traditional classrooms, a new administration area, a covered, secure outdoor area for Foundation Stage, a new school library and, most recently, the replacement of two mobile classrooms with permanent classrooms. As a result, we now have a school building and facilities of a high standard. In 2011-12, we are planning to further develop our playground area to further promote healthy and active playtimes and to contribute to learning activities outside the classroom.
This website aims to give you an insight into life at Locking Stumps and how children are educated and valued here. However, I would also encourage a visit to the school (including a guided tour from some of our children) to see it in action. Should you wish to visit or to discuss any aspect of the education provided at our school, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange an appointment.
I look forward to meeting you.
Yours sincerely
John Littler
